The web portal www.coolregion.nl has partly been made possible by financial support from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). An amount of EUR 500,000 has been granted because the portal is strengthening the innovation climate of the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen. The City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen has to contribute at least the same amount of money to co-finance the project. This means that more than one million euro will be invested to successfully put the region on the map internationally.
Investing in your future
The City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen (The region intends to invest in further economic development in the coming years. Due to the economic downturn, not only has this become a major issue but also a major challenge. Since the days of the economy being predominantly local in character are long gone, a regional approach may seem to be the most obvious. Businesses and organizations in the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen are gradually discovering the opportunities offered by the international market for selling their products or services and/or taking on new staff. As a result of globalization, the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen is getting more and more an international orientation. This also means, however, that on a European level the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen will face more and more competition with other (European) regions. Given the economic situation, it will be essential to make the most of all opportunities available to companies and institutions in the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen, both nationally and internationally.
The City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen has a so-called ‘broad economy’, which means that it has many companies operating in a wide range of fields (including transport & logistics and business-related services). The city region aims to further strengthen this broad economic activity as well as to take maximum advantage of the growing potential of the companies. In order to achieve this, the city region intends to encourage the development of the following promising business clusters:
- Health care and welfare: Gezondheid, zorg en welzijn;
- Fashion and design: Mode en vormgeving;
- Energy and environmental technology: Energie en Milieu (including innovative greenhouse farming);
- Semiconductors and technology: Halfgeleiders en technologie;
- Tourism: Toerisme.
- Logistics: Logistiek.
These promising business clusters, laid down in the economic agenda of the City Region of Arnhem Nijmegen, are getting extra emphasis at the web portal to stress the distinctive features of Cool Region and to give it international exposure.
